Rio Ferdinand Has A Brilliant Reaction To Marcos Rojo's Change Of Squad Number

The former Manchester United man had something to say about the heir to his number five shirt dropping it to vacant.

Manchester United's squad numbers for the Premier League season came out today and the major story was Marcos Rojo losing the number five shirt, leaving it vacant, that aroused the interest of former number five Rio Ferdinand.

Not sure if you're aware of this but Manchester United really really wanted to sign a centre back during the transfer window, something that in the end never happened.

Throughout the transfer window Jose Mourinho's side were linked with Toby Alderweireld, Yerry Mina, Jerome Boateng, Harry Maguire, Diego Godin and Raphael Varane and given another few days there wouldn't have been many centre backs on the planet they hadn't tried to sign.

Instead the Red Devils were left empty handed meaning they only have Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo to choose from in the two central defensive positions.

What a boost to their confidence the last few weeks must have been. One of them would have likely been sold had United actually made the move they were clearly so desperate for and today's evidence is that it would have been Rojo.

That's because today's squad numbers show the Argentine defender has lost the number five shirt, probably to be given to the new man who never came. With the shirt vacant former number five wearer Rio Ferdinand fancies a return, well so he joked:

The former West Ham and Leeds United man clearly would like to be talked to about the decision on who will get the shirt that he once wore so brilliantly:

Rojo took over from Ferdinand in the shirt, after the former England captain left for QPR, in 2014 but he was linked with Everton in the transfer window and looked likely to be man to make way for the incoming man.

But the incoming player never came and Mourinho must make do with his team now.

Some United fans would take Ferdinand right now, there's no doubt that at his peak he's better than any option the Red Devils could sign at the moment.
