The former One Direction singer needed help getting fit for an upcoming tour so the Special One helped him out.

Niall Horan and football are best connected through charity games but the former One Direction singer once actually found himself on the books at Chelsea, kind of. Jose Mourinho lied to his medical staff to help the Irishman out.

Jose Mourinho takes his playing staff very seriously. He knows what he wants in a player and if they don't meet that criteria they soon find themselves at a different club, just ask Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The last thing you imagine Mourinho doing is dropping his high standards so a celebrity could take advantage of the facilities on offer at a club he's in charge of and get fit for their own tour.

Check out these classic Mourinho quotes:

However according to former One Direction member Niall Horan, talking to talkSPORT, that's exactly what happened. The 24 year old told the story of how the then Chelsea manager claimed the Irishman was a squad member to make sure his staff got the singer fit:

"Jose... [he's a] great man. I really enjoyed his company. I got to know him when I had my knee reconstructed about three or four seasons ago. I needed to have some rehab done to get back on tour - this was December and I had to be back on tour in May - and I'd basically had a knee reconstruction.

"I had Jose Mourinho's details from when me and the One Direction lads went to visit the Real Madrid training ground when he was manager at the time. I got in touch with him and he invited me down the [Chelsea] training ground, and he told the doctors I was one of his players and he needs me back fit.

"I ended up spending every day there for four months with all the players - I became part of the furniture!"

Would Horan get into this Chelsea line up?

Surely the medical staff must have noticed they'd not seen the player around before and did the likes of John Terry and Willian not notice that they'd been joined by someone new, that they might have recognised?

Either way it seems that Jose softened his approach so Horan could go and tour with One Direction, maybe Mourinho will make sure he only lets groups that are going to stick together train at his club in future.
