Jack Wilshere Responds To His And Joe Hart's England Rejection In Hilarious Fashion

The Arsenal midfielder and West Ham goalkeeper were left out of England's squad for the World Cup on Wednesday.

Jack Wilshere and Joe Hart may have been the two most surprised people to find out they'd missed out on the World Cup this summer but despite that Wilshere was able to have a good laugh at himself, and his former England colleague.

It's been two years since Jack Wilshere last donned an England shirt. On that night he and the Three Lions were embarrassingly crashing out of the 2016 Euros in France to Iceland.

Since then injuries and a dip in form have seen him fail to figure for either Sam Allardyce or Gareth Southgate. The latter called him up for the friendlies against Netherlands and Italy in March but an injury saw him miss out.

Two years ago we tried to predict England's 2020 team, it's already massively wrong:

However many still expected that the Arsenal midfielder would make it to Russia this summer for the World Cup, especially when Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picked up an injury in the Champions League semi-final that ruled him out.

But on Tuesday it was reported that Wilshere would miss out on the tournament with Manchester City's Fabian Delph set to go instead. When the squad was announced on Wednesday it was confirmed as the case.

The 26 year old will be gutted but at least he could have a laugh, taking to Instagram story to share a brilliant meme:

The meme first started circulating after that loss to Iceland. At the time Wilshere probably shouldn't have gone to the tournament with Roy Hodgson picking him on perceived talent rather than form or fitness.

He was poor against Iceland as was Hart who was at least partially at fault for both of the victor's goals.

The Euros seems to have been the start of the goalkeeper's demise. He was also at fault for Wales' goal in the Group Stages and then returned to Manchester City to find that Pep Guardiola didn't want him.

He was forced to go on loan to Torino with no one else seeing value in signing him and he didn't have a great time in Serie A. He moved to West Ham on loan this season but things again didn't go well.

Part way through the season he lost his place to Adrian and his form never fully returned. Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and Nick Pope are going to Russia instead of him with even Tom Heaton ahead of him on the list of replacements.

Hart may not quite have the same humour about it all as Wilshere.
