Lionel Messi returned to action on Saturday afternoon and certainly wasn't happy with the man who marked him, asking the player if he was 'an idiot' and calling him an 'a**hole.'

The six time Ballon d'Or winner was hoping to have left Barcelona by now but has since decided that he's going to have to stay with the Catalan giants, at least until next summer.

He played his first game for Ronald Koeman's side on Saturday, as Barca played hosts to third tier side Gimnastic in a friendly, and Messi clearly wasn't happy during the game.

Midfielder Javier Ribelles was given the chance to mark Messi in the game but the Argentina forward wasn't happy with Ribelles' techniques.

Following the match, Ribelles spoke to the press and claimed the Barcelona superstar said, "'What are you doing, idiot? Do you want to stop kicking me, a**hole?'

"It was clear that Messi could not turn, because if he does and faces you it is very complicated.

"In one of those that he is going to receive from his back, I will give him everything, with his feet, his hands, with the chest," he certainly isn't denying that he kicked the forward.

Messi only played the first half of the game and didn't get on the score sheet but the returning Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann, now wearing the number seven shirt, scored to put the La Liga side 2-0 up.

Javi Bonilla scored on half an hour to get Gimnastic back in the game before Philippe Coutinho scored from the spot just six minutes into the second half, after a slew of changes, with the game finishing 3-1.

Whilst Messi is staying at the Nou Camp, this season at least, his fellow forward Luis Suarez looks certain to leave the club.

The former Ajax man missed the friendly and the weekend and was again left out of the squad against Granada on Wednesday, Koeman though won't get his favoured signing to replace Suarez.
