Whoever runs the German FA Twitter account might want to have a long hard look at themselves after an embarrassing post following Manchester City's win against Liverpool with the winner being scored by Leroy Sane.

For the past 18 months Leroy Sane has been one of the most devastating attacking players in the Premier League, the Manchester City winger has pace and skill to bamboozle even the best of defenders.

National teams make all sorts of weird decisions when it comes to picking squads for the World Cup but there's little doubt that Joachim Low's decision to not call up Sane for last summer's tournament was the weirdest decision ahead of Russia.

Of course we can look at it with hindsight now but even at the time everyone was baffled, it rather served Low and Germany right when they were knocked out in the Group Stage.

Considering how embarrassing the whole episode was for them they'd probably not want to do anything to remind everyone, but that hasn't been the case.

After the City winger scored the winning goal against Liverpool on Thursday night they posted a picture of him celebrating with the caption 'Never write off the champions' on Twitter:

Rather predictably though there's a raft of people ready to remind them that they basically wrote off Sane in the summer, when he was a Premier League champion.

Last season the former Schalke player got 10 goals and 15 assists for Pep Guardiola's side in the league as they broke all sorts of records to win the Premier League but somehow he wasn't picked for the World Cup.

It's unlikely that Germany will make that mistake again and he's once again been amongst the goals, scoring seven and assisting seven.

Clearly missing out on the World Cup hasn't affected him too badly.
