Remember that bust of Cristiano Ronaldo? The one that looked like Max Headroom crossed with The Head off Art Attack?
It turns out that the staff at the Cristiano Ronaldo Airport on the Portuguese island of Madeira have finally taken the hint and had it replaced, with a new bust installed that actually looks like the person that it's meant to look like.
The original statue made global news when it was unveiled as part of the ceremony to rename the airport on Madeira , where Ronaldo was born and raised.

"It's impossible to please the Greeks and the Trojans. Not even Jesus pleased everyone," said sculptor Emanuel Santos at the time of the media storm around the bust.
"This is a matter of taste, it's not as simple as it seems. I have seen the work of great artists that follow this parameter. What matters is the impact this work generated.
"There is always the possibility of producing something that looks different. I was already prepared for all of that.
"I used some photos of Cristiano Ronaldo that I found on the internet as a base, not one photo specifically. I put the photos by my side and started working on the bust."
The official Twitter account of the Madeira Islands, which are a popular holiday destination, confirmed that the bust had been replaced on Monday, although it is thought that they were actually swapped on Friday.

Maybe the knowledge that his own airport now had an image that looked something like him, rather than like Raoul Moat on a good day, inspired Cristiano Ronaldo to his herculean performance in Portugal's opening game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup last Friday night.
