Manchester United Send Scout Over 5000 Miles From Game He's Attending

The Premier League club wanted to cast their eyes on an international friendly in Iceland but the match was actually being played in Qatar.

We've all had embarrassing moments when we've turned up to an event on the wrong day or got the wrong venue for a night out but being over 5000 miles away from where you're supposed to be, that's taking things to a new level.

Scouting players by sending someone to watch a match in another country is hardly a foreign concept in football, well unless you're being literal in which case being in another country is a foreign country.

More and more which scouts turn up at which games is becoming part of the narrative of transfer windows with pretty much every match being played by Benfica watches by at least 10 scouts from the Premier League.

So Manchester United sending someone to watch Iceland vs Czech Republic isn't that surprising but the Danish scout turning up in Reykjavik when the match was in Qatar is a bit more surprising, not least for the poor scout.

Icelandic website Fotbolti reported the hilarious news that United booked their man a flight to the country's capital but when he arrived he found out the match was being played over 5000 miles away.

The scout reportedly turned up at the Laugardalsvollur national stadium to pick up his accreditation and get into the ground only to be told by locals that the match was actually taking place in a neutral venue at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.

According to the report in Iceland the Danish scout was very confused when he realised the lights weren't on in the stadium and clearly no one was home but he'd no doubt have been annoyed to learn he could have had a bit of winter sun.

It's not known which player or players he was there to watch but you can bet the scout won't be in a rush to do any travelling anytime soon without checking at least 10 times he's going to the right place.

In their first friendly since qualifying for the World Cup in Russia next year the surprise package from last year's Euros lost 2-1 with Tomáš Souček and Jan Sýkora putting the away team 2-0 up before Kjartan Finnbogason grabbed a late consolation.
