Cristiano Ronaldo failed to win a sixth Ballon d'Or last night, with the award going to World Cup star Luka Modric, now his sisters have posted salty messages about the decision, including blaming the mafia on his failure to win.

It finally happened, after 10 years of domination from Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi someone else has got their hands on a Ballon d'Or trophy with Luka Modric claiming the prize on Monday night.

The Real Madrid midfielder was integral to both Real's third Champions League victory in a row and Croatia's incredible run to the World Cup final, winning the tournament's Golden Ball trophy in the process.

Ronaldo did at least manage to get on the podium. The Juventus forward was in second place, ahead of Antoine Griezmann in third, whereas Messi was somehow back in fifth.

Whilst most of the surprise was about Messi's placing two people are very annoyed how low down Ronaldo was in the voting, namely his sisters.

Taking to social media Elma Aveiro posted a picture of her brother with one of his trophies and blamed the mafia for his failure to win, saying, "Unfortunately this is the world we live in, rotten, with mafia and f******g money. The power of God is a lot greater than all this rottenness. God takes his time but he doesn't fail."

And his other sister, Katia Aveiro, also posted the picture with the message, "Best player in the world....for those who understand football of course."

Someone pass the salt!

No one's doubting that Ronaldo is still one of the best players in the world, heck he still finished second, but it's okay that he got beat by Modric.

We've waited a decade for the duopoly of Messi and Ronaldo to be broken, they're still undoubtedly the best two in the world, but Modric deserved his success to be recognised.

Why so salty?
