Alvaro Morata signed for Chelsea in a club-record deal yesterday, and out-of-favour striker Diego Costa 'liked' the club's post on Instagram.

Last month, Costa revealed that he was no longer wanted at Chelsea having received a text from Antonio Conte informing him he wasn't part of his plans.

The two had a public falling out mid-season over an injury, with the report from the Daily Mail saying that the former Atletico man felt he was suffering from a problem with his lower back, which could well be a factor in the regularity of the hamstring injuries Costa has been hit with.

Some medical staff did not believe it was the case though and Conte is said to have taken sides with his physios.

The 28-year old returned to the side, but his form was far from usual standards Costa had set, and for a while now it's been clear that he is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge - with the striker not included in Chelsea's pre-season squad for the trip to Singapore and Conte confirming that in an interview with the official Chelsea website.

And when Morata was officially announced as Costa's replacement on a five-year deal yesterday, Costa liked the post on Instagram in what many are deeming to be a message of sarcasm.

Conte has completely closed the possibility of Costa returning to the club with his comments yesterday, saying:

"I don't like to talk about a player when they don't stay here, the only things I can tell you is in January the Costa situation was very clear for the club, for him and for his agent, and the situation is closed."

And the Italian was also full of praise for new boy Morata, who he signed for Juventus before taking the Italian national team job.

"This is a good signing for us. Morata is a young player but has a lot of experience and played in the past with Real Madrid and Juventus and Real Madrid and has a lot of experience for the league and the Champions League. He is young and can improve a lot.

"Morata is our first choice. He's a good striker, a player with the right prospects for Chelsea. He can show his value with us."

Costa, meanwhile, is expected to return to Atletico Madrid but the club's transfer ban is complicating the deal.
