He's had a nightmare...

What is it with footballers and their social media gaffes?

Sunderland striker Victor Anichebe let us all know back in October that footballers aren't always behind his social media activity when the Nigerian put a post-match message to fans following a last-gasp defeat to West Ham away from home.

While a nice, positive message is expected from players in defeat, people quickly picked up on the the fact that the former West Brom and Everton striker had accidentally copied and pasted the first part of the message, presumably sent to him by his or Sunderland's PR representative, and became a laughing stock as a result.

Anichebe promptly removed the error after spotting his error but fans on social media were already well aware of his calamity.

And the same thing happened with Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke yesterday.

The Belgian was on the scoresheet in a 4-0 win for the Eagles, relegating Hull City and securing survival for Palace in the process.

But when the former Villa man posted about the victory, notching another win and achieving Premier League status for next season, those on social media were quick to pick up on the fact that his message was clearly copied and pasted from elsewhere - as he started his post with "Caption:".

The post, which was seen on both Twitter and Instagram, was swiftly amended but not before eagle-eyed followers screenshotted his blunder.

As bad as this gaffe was, it's not the worst Benteke has conjured up on social media.

Back in August when he signed for Palace in a £27m move, the forward changed his Twitter bio and made out as if he had signed for Burnley, and not Palace.

The bio was then changed to read "CPFC & Belgium national team", with Benteke then Tweeting:

"Oops my bad lol [.] Yes I signed for CPFC and not Burney.

"Sorry for the little mistake. The person who manages my Twitter got a little confused."

Footballers on social media - not a winning formula.
