France Football Boss Reveals Cristiano Ronaldo's Huge Ambition Before Retirement

France Football Boss Reveals Cristiano Ronaldo's Huge Ambition Before Retirement

Cristiano Ronaldo is 37 in February but still has a target to reach before he hangs up his boots.

Cristiano Ronaldo's one objective before he retires is to win more Ballon d'Ors than Lionel Messi.

That's according to Pascal Ferre, who is in the editor-in-chief of France Football - the outlet who hand out the coveted award each year.

Ronaldo, who returned to Manchester United in the summer, is a five-time Ballon d'Or winner - one behind long-time rival Messi.

Messi is reportedly in line to win the prize for the seventh time but Ferre, in charge of the Ballon d'Or for the last six years, claims Ronaldo is still desperate to one up the Argentine.

Ronaldo has only one ambition and that is to retire with more Ballon d'Or [awards] than Messi," Ferre told the New York Times, as per MARCA.

"I know because he has told me."

Ronaldo and Messi's rivalry will go down as one of the greatest in all of sport, with the two breaking countless records and raising one another's game for more than a decade.

"I shared this stage with him (Messi) for 15 years," Ronaldo said on the competition when the two sat side-by-side at the Champions League draw a couple of years back.

"I don't know if it has ever happened before in football - the same two guys in the same stage all the time. Of course we have a good relationship - we have not had dinner together yet, but I hope so in the future.

"We have that battle, he pushed me and I pushed him as well. It's great to be a part of the history of football. I am there, and of course, he is as well."

It's looking as though Messi will be named as the 2021 winner on Monday after the Ballon d'Or was scrapped due to COVID-19 last year.

If the leaks are to be believed, Karim Benzema has finished second, with Robert Lewandowski, rather controversially, coming in third place.

Ronaldo, who last won the prize in 2016, is apparently not in the top three. The Portuguese superstar has hit 10 goals in 14 games in his second spell at United.
