Forget the Avengers or the Justice League, it is in fact the Super League who will save the world, or at least the world of football, according to Florentino Perez.
Pretty much the entirety of football is against the Super League, that was announced in a shocking statement on Sunday night.

On Monday night Leeds fans gathered outside of Elland Road to share their displeasure with the arriving Liverpool players, although judging by James Milner's post match interview he's not exactly happy about the whole thing.
The 12 clubs involved have largely hidden behind the original statement, with Manchester City and Manchester United even to cowardice to post the link to their statement on social media channels.
However Real Madrid president Perez, who has just won his most recent term at Los Blancos unopposed, claimed that the clubs were trying to 'save football' in an interview on Monday night.
"The attractive thing in football is playing between big clubs, the value for television increases and more income is generated," the Real chief told tv channel El Chiringuito when asked about the impact on 'smaller clubs.'

"It's not just the rich who want the Super League, we're doing it to save football because it's at a critical moment.
"It will become like a pyramid because we big clubs will have more money and we will be able to invest it by buying players.
"If the big clubs lose their money as is happening, the whole football system crashes as with the Champions League."
Asked about the new Super League being a closed competition, Perez refused the notion, citing the five spots available each year for the clubs deemed worthy of joining the 'founding clubs.'

"The Super League is not a closed league, it's absolutely not true," the 74-year-old said, "Whoever wins the five available spots will be able to play with the other best teams in the world, (and presumably Arsenal and Spurs too.)
"We will speak to UEFA as we said in the statement. We have to discuss with UEFA the five spots available in the Super League.
"UEFA has been working on the new format of the Champions League but I honestly don't understand it.
"We want to save football.

"UEFA is a monopoly but it needs to be more transparent. We want to save football for the next 20 years, it is in a time of serious danger. If you win, you receive €120 to € 130m from UEFA but with the Super League we will earn much more."
Having claimed, three times, that the 12 clubs involved in the new breakaway competition was merely for altruistic reasons, what a mensch, also blamed Covid and loss of funds for his team and the other 11 sides during the past 15 months.
"Together we have lost €5 billion. In two seasons Madrid have lost €400m.

"When you have no income other than television, you say that the solution is to make more attractive matches that fans from all over the world can see with all the big clubs, and we came to the conclusion that if instead of having a Champions League we have a Super League we would be able to alleviate what we have lost."
So the Super League is to save football or save Real Madrid's bank account, which is it exactly Florentino? I feel like I could probably take a guess...
In the interview, which really hasn't gone anyway to helping the idea that Real, the two other La Liga, three Serie A and six Premier League clubs are just money and power hungry machines hell bent on ruining football, Perez also managed to blame young people, because of course.
"40% of young people aren't interested in football," the man who probably couldn't be less in touch with young people if he tried added, "Because there are too many games of low quality. And we had to adapt. 16-24 year old fans of that age don't have interest in football."
So there you have it, the Super League is going to save us all, from boring football, from Covid and from financial ruin.
Ironman, Captain America and Thor don't come close to this lot!
