There's no doubt in my mind that football needs VAR but what it certainly needs is officials that can do their jobs properly. Fans were astounded that the referee and linesman missed just how far Keylor Navas was off his line.
The argument over video technology will run and run for many a year yet. The idea of VAR is to reduce the amount of horrific decisions that refs and their assistants make, rather than the 50/50 ones that could go either way.
Of course referees could always start by knowing the rules in the first place.

On Sunday night Real Madrid took on Celta Vigo hoping to close the gap on league leaders Barcelona. Los Blancos went 1-0 down before turning it around to lead 2-1 by half-time.
In the second half Celta Vigo had the chance to equalise from the spot but Keylor Navas save denied them a goal but fans couldn't believe it wasn't retaken after the keeper was clearly off his line when it was taken:
Celta were lucky that Gómez González was able to grab an equaliser late in the game and the 2-2 draw means Real are now 16 points behind league leaders Barcelona with a game in hand.

Navas gave away a penalty and despite reprieving himself with the save his future at the Bernabeu is questionable with Real reportedly close to signing Athletico Bilbao goalie Kepa.
