Ronaldinho Spent His 40th Birthday In Prison, With A BBQ And Cake

Ronaldinho Spent His 40th Birthday In Prison, With A BBQ And Cake

Ronaldinho is currently in jail in Paraguay for allegedly entering the country on falsified documents but the Brazilian still managed to enjoy his 40th birthday.

The former Barcelona player has been behind bars with his brother since the beginning of the month after they both allegedly went to Paraguay with false passports.

He turned 40 on Saturday and whilst everyone was eulogising over his past career the World Cup winner was in prison, although he still managed to celebrate.

In prison he was treated to a churrascaria, Brazilian style BBQ, and was even given a birthday cake.

Before his birthday it hadn't been a good week for the former World Footballer of the Year, he is in prison after all, with Coronavirus potentially damaging his chances of being freed.

The former player and his brother were denied being under house arrest, as they were considered a 'flight risk,' and the witness who is reportedly the woman who supplied them with the documents to come into the country could not be in court due to her diabetes making her high risk to Coronavirus.

Outside of the prison walls his former teammates paid tribute to him on social media. Fellow former Barcelona forward Ronaldo posted on Instagram saying, "Congratulations Xará (mate)! May you overcome this difficult stage of your life with the same joy as always!," alongside a selection of pictures of the pair as teammates and opponents.

And another Brazil teammate, Roberto Carlos, posted a video of them doing keepy uppys together with the caption, "Best wishes friend @ronaldinho 40 years old #happybirthday my friend."

We can only imagine the party for his 41st birthday will be a lot bigger than the celebrations this year. But then again as the rest of us are currently locked up with no BBQ or cake he didn't do too badly.
