Manchester City could feasibly be expelled from the Premier League, that's the opinion of one football finance writer after the club's two year ban from European competition.

Last week UEFA's Adjudicatory Chamber found City in 'serious breach' of the European governing bodies Financial Fair Play regulations 'by overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts.'

The Premier League are likely to have their own investigation into the club, should the ban be upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after appeal, and should they be found guilty of 'falsifying or distorting their finances' they could face serious punishment.

Previously the worst outcome was seen as a retrospective points deduction, leading to losing a league title or two, but now football finance writer Mo Chatra has taken to Twitter to explain how it could be even worse.

The current Premier League champions have been fined € 30 million by UEFA, on top of their ban, but instantly said they were going to appeal the decision.

There has already been talk that manager Pep Guardiola could leave the club in the summer, along with a number of players, and on Saturday a sports lawyer explained how manager and players could find a way to resign from the club.

If the club are thrown out of the league then they could be relegated down to League Two after a recent EFL rule means clubs who have broken FFP rules can be sent down to the bottom tier of league football.

Away from relegation the Sky Blues could also have a points deduction, either from this season or retrospectively.

It will be an interesting few months as City fight the ruling from UEFA and then wait to see what the Premier League do.
