talkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair has criticised Manchester United's Jesse Lingard, arguing that the 28 year old lacks ambition.

Lingard is rumoured to have rejected a permanent move to West Ham United, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season but is also said to have turned down a new contract at Old Trafford.

Sinclair, a former Hammer himself, is stunned by the speculation and fears that the 28 year old will stay as a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjær's squad, irrespective of his limited game time.

"If he doesn't get given the assurances and signs the new deal, then he's not as ambitious as I'd like him to be," Sinclair said on the station's White and Jordan show yesterday. "I am confused- why didn't he join West Ham permanently? He was loved there. He was the main man.

He played once for Manchester United last season, he played 16 times for West Ham. He scored goals, he got back in the England squad- why wouldn't he want to sign for them? Why would you not want to be in that environment?"

West Ham First Team Coach Stuart Pearce is also keen for Lingard to making the switch to East London, telling talkSPORT earlier this week that the club may revisit the situation in January.

"He has missed the opportunity to leave United in this transfer window," Pearce said. "He can reassess his situation come January once again and decide whether there is an opportunity to move clubs or whatever. He holds the cards. The most important thing for him at the moment is football.

He is playing the odd game for United and playing extremely well for England. Those performances for England might just help get him in the United side. He is too good a player to be on the outside of it not playing to be honest. He is at an age where he needs to be playing now."

Lingard has made just one appearance for The Red Devils so far this season, in a brief cameo away to Southampton in August. However, he has featured for The Three Lions in two of their last three outings and was extremely impressive in their 4-0 win against Andorra last Sunday.
