Arsenal are reportedly worried that they may be stuck with the highly-paid Mesut Ozil until the end of his contract.

If the Germany international sticks it out until June he could earn another £8.75 million in wages at the Emirates, as well as a large 'loyalty bonus' for staying until the end of his deal - according to The Sun.

Ozil has been heavily linked with a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, but the Super Lig side are £275 million in debt and asking fans to help them pay their wage bill - so he would likely have to take a large pay cut on his current £350,000-a-week deal.

Ozil hasn't played for the Gunners this season, after seeming to fall out with manager Mikel Arteta.

This is despite the north Londoners struggling for creativity, and the 32-year-old once being known for being one of the best creative midfielders in the world - to the extent that one pundit thinks he might be worth a statue outside the stadium.

Ozil himself seems open to staying with the Premier League club, with his agent, Dr Erkut Sogut, having said: "His priority is to stay at Arsenal but things can change very fast in football and he might go, so we are checking all the options for this month and for the summer."

Arsenal's recent turnaround in form has quitened detractors for now, but there have been some calls from fans for the midfielder to be rehabilitated into the squad. However, this would now need a big turnaround from Arteta, just as he is gaining some support at the club.
