The top 10 most followed football players on social media have been revealed with a few surprising additions in the list. Cristiano Ronaldo comes out on top, nearly doubling second place.

The majority of footballing superstars now have a massive following on social media sties.

With Cristiano Ronaldo currently the most followed person in the world on Instagram, a top 10 of footballers followed across social media platforms have been collated and ranked from ten to number one.


10. Luis Suarez - Barcelona - 71,900,000 followers.

9. Zlatan Ibrahimovc - AC Milan - 75,600,000 followers

8. Marcelo - Real Madrid - 76,200,000 followers

7. Mesut Ozil - Arsenal - 77,800,000 followers


6. Sergio Ramos - Real Madrid - 79,200,000 followers

5. Gareth Bale - Real Madrid - 88,500,000 followers

4. James Rodriguez - Real Madrid - 95,300,000 followers

The list has a few surprising names with Mesut Ozil being the only player on the list from the English Premier League.

He also has the lowest followers on Instagram out of the top 10, with his Facebook followers pushing him up to seventh in the list.

Controversial Real Madrid players James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale make the top five, albeit barely featuring in Real Madrid's squad this season with both rumoured heavily to leave Spain.


Lionel Messi sees himself in third place but at a caveat.

Messi doesn't actually have Twitter, so would easily be second if he did, only trailing second place Neymar by only 300,000 followers.

Cristiano Ronaldo nearly doubles second place Neymar with a difference of 186,500,000 followers.
