Ladies and gentlemen, we already have a contender for the best half of football this season.
It came tonight during Sevilla's match with FC Salzburg at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, where there were an extraordinary FOUR penalties in just forty five minutes.
The first spot-kick came after just 13 minutes when the hosts' Diego Carlos was judged to have fouled Karim Adeyemi in the penalty area. After a quick VAR review, the latter stepped up to take the penalty he had won but drilled it wide of goalkeeper Yassine Bounou's left post.
Thankfully for the visitors, they were awarded another chance from the spot just 8 minutes later when Adeyemi was bundled over by former Manchester City man Jesús Navas. Although Adeyemi was keen to take it, the opportunity fell to 19 year old midfielder Luka Sučić, who calmly sent Bounou the wrong way.
16 minutes later and referee Aleksei Kulbakov pointed to the spot in Salzburg's favour again. Unsurprisingly, Bounou and Adeyemi were involved in the thick of the action once again, with the former upending the latter as they raced to grab the ball. Despite being so composed a few minutes before, Sučić missed the penalty, smashing his shot off Bounou's post to somehow keep the score at just 1-0.

This miss came back to bite the visitors with just three minutes of the first half remaining. After a poor challenge from behind by centre back Maximilian Wöber on Youssef En-Nesyri, Kulbakov couldn't give anything but a penalty. Croatia's Ivan Rakitić did the rest, firing low and hard past Philipp Köhn to level the scores and give this crazy half yet another twist.
This promises to be one hell of a second half.
