Rio Ferdinand has named the three players that Newcastle United should sign after the £305 million Saudi-led takeover of the club.

The Manchester United legend believes that the Magpies should target two fringe players at the so-called 'big six' clubs, along with West Ham United's England star of last summer's European Championships.

Jesse Lingard has been in and out of the Man United team this season, but managed to produce the good whenever called upon after scoring 2 goals in his 3 Premier League appearances so far this season. He also claimed an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo's dramatic stoppage-time winner in a 2-1 Champions League victory over Villarreal at Old Trafford.

Three-time Premier League winner Raheem Sterling has made 7 Premier League appearances for Manchester City this season, but has only been named in the starting 11 twice by Pep Guardiola. His only goal this campaign so far came in the 5-0 thumping of Norwich City last month.

Declan Rice's stock has increased further following an impressive start to the season for West Ham United, after scoring 2 goals and claiming 2 assists in nine appearances across all competitions for the Hammers. He found the net in the 2-0 wins over Dinamo Zagreb and Rapid Vienna respectively and is a key figure in David Moyes' squad.

Ferdinand says Newcastle should look at signing all three players as a priority and says that looking to recruit the likes of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint Germain is unrealistic.

"I'd be going to try and make like a mad couple of signings, like huge, that I think would be gettable," said Ferdinand on his YouTube show Vibe with Five.

"I'd be looking at people like Raheem Sterling. Raheem Sterling's not playing regularly, I'd go ask him the question. I'd go and ask Declan Rice, 'What's going on?'

"Them two would be the first two on my list, and I'd go all out to go and get them. And then I'd be trying to get people like Jesse Lingard, who's in and around the Man United squad.

"[Mbappe] is just dreamland, but there's people that would be on the periphery of the Man United squad, the Chelsea squad, the City squad. I'd be looking at players like that, I'd be all over those types of players."

He went onto suggest that bringing in young and hungry English players is the right way to go, and singled out a player each from Norwich and Crystal Palace.

"Max Aarons, the right-back at Norwich, Under-21 player. Conor Gallagher, straight in there. Get him in there. They're two names, straight away, young kids who I'd say they're coming into Newcastle. I want young, English talent. Newcastle are an English club; I'd want a young core of English players."
