Some great players are linked forever to a certain shirt and number, from Arsenal's free-scoring No 14 to Man United's blood-twisting 11.

But most footballers don't begin their careers with the number they're famously associated with. Often, as teenage nobodies, they have to make do with any random number they can get hold of.

So these top players had to start out early on wearing a random collection of 42s, 28s, 37s etc - before they could grab the iconic No 7 or No 10 they always wanted to play in.

We're giving you a shirt number - plus a hint of the shirt - and simply asking you to tell us who played in this before they became an established star.
