Worst La Liga Signings XI Stars Antoine Griezmann But Not Eden Hazard

Antoine Griezmann and his Barcelona teammate Junior Firpo appear in Marca's XI for the season's big "disappointments" - but Eden Hazard escapes despite his struggles at Real Madrid.

The influential Spanish newspaper have put together a 3-4-3 team of new signings who struggled in 2019/20. French striker Griezmann, plus Atletico Madrid's record signing Joao Felix, are the biggest stars to feature after failing to meet sky-high expectations.

It's been a hard season for Griezmann, as the 29-year-old has not struck up a strong understanding with Lionel Messi on the pitch. Marca praised him for showing flashes of his "enormous quality" - but with only nine Liga goals in 35 games, there are rumours the €120 million signing could be on the move already.

At least Atletico's Felix has age on his side but the 20-year-old Portuguese wonderkid is taking his time to settle in Madrid after the €126 million move from Benfica made him the third most expensive player in history. Sporadic injuries have limited him to 27 Liga games and six goals in 2019/20.

Controversially Eden Hazard doesn't appear in Marca's XI despite a hugely disappointing season.

Injuries, form and fitness (or even fatness) have blighted his first year at Real as he's recorded just one goal in 16 Liga games - awful numbers for a player of such elite quality.

One Real star who does make the XI is Luka Jovic, the Serbian striker who scored 27 goals last season for Eintracht Frankfurt but netted just two Liga goals in 2019/20. Unlike Hazard, who will get another season to show his true class, Jovic could be on his way out, with AC Milan linked.

Elsewhere, two Valencia players - including Dutch international keeper Jasper Cillessen - appear after a poor season that saw Los Che finish outside the European places. The club may now have to sell many of their first-team stars.

Unsurprisingly, last-placed Espanyol are the other team, aside from Barca and Valencia, to have two players feature in the team.

Marca's full XI is below.

GK: Jasper Cillessen (Valencia)

DF: Thierry Correia (Valencia), Fernando Calero (Espanyol), Junior Firpo (Barcelona)

MF: Rony Lopes (Sevilla), Denis Suarez (Celta Vigo), Matias Vargas (Espanyol), Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)

FW: Antoine Greizmann (Barcelona), Luka Jovic (Real Madrid), Borga Iglesias (Real Betis)

Let us know who else you think could have made the cut, based on their 2019/20 Liga displays.
