Eden Hazard has been highly praised for his performance in the 2018 World Cup so far - but he still feels he won't be winning the Ballon d'Or anytime soon.

His determination and skill has helped earn the Red Devils a spot in the semifinals of the competition, having beat Brazil in a shock result.

The World Cup is regarded as the pinnacle of football. To win the World Cup is a huge achievement, with a number of past players who won the tournament coming out on top in the Ballon d'Or race.

With this in mind, the real contenders of his year's Ballon d'Or are players such as Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric and Hazard. These players all remain in the competition and a win for them with their respective sides might well give them a Ballon d'Or victory.

But Hazard sees things a bit differently. "It will be for Messi or Cristiano, it is written like that," he said via Marca.

"I remember a year in which [Franck] Ribery won everything and didn't get it."

It's an interesting take on the award. The last player to win the Ballon d'Or who wasn't Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is Kaka, the former Brazilian prodigy whose career took a slight nose-dive when he moved to Real Madrid from AC Milan, after winning the award in 2007.

It has been a very long time but there is no one like Messi and Ronaldo. They're on another level to everyone else. They achieved and broke records once again last season, and so an award seems fair.
