Zinedine Zidane reportedly left Real Madrid after being hassled by club president Florentino Rodríguez on team selection, such as marginalising Cristiano Ronaldo out the club.

Zidane quit managing the side in a move that shocked the footballing world this week. He said that the club need a "different voice."

"What I think is that this team needs to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology," Zidane told a packed press conference. "This is the right moment for all involved - for me, for the squad, for the club."

The former Juventus and Real Madrid player won three consecutive Champions League titles with Los Blancos, showing that his footballing ability extended from the pitch all the way to management.

But there are some question marks around his timing in leaving the side. The Mirror say that after watching Gareth Bale's outstanding showing in Real Madrid's Champions League encounter with Liverpool, where the Welshman scored two goals, one an absolute worldie overhead kick, Perez reportedly told Zidane to bring in Bale as the main man and start phasing out Ronaldo, the team's star player. It's because Ronaldo is starting to age, and Bale is in and around his prime.

Zidane obviously didn't like the president's meddling, because it's understood that he quit the club after turning down Perez' requests, the Frenchman not wanting to be the one who sends Ronaldo's career down.

Tottenham recently distanced themselves from re-purchasing Bale but one team who're keen is Manchester United. The Reds devil are looking to make it star-studded cast with the 28-year-old leading the line at Old Trafford. Zidane's departure might change that, however, as the Mirror report that Bale is in favour of staying in Spain now the boss has headed off.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is now favourite to replace Zidane in Madrid despite signing a five-year deal just recently.
