What Roy Keane Said About Liverpool's Champions League Chances Makes Him Looks Pretty Stupid

He got this very wrong...

Roy Keane has never been one to bite his tongue, especially when it comes to his old rivals Liverpool.

The former Manchester United midfielder developed a reputation for his no nonsense approach to tackling as a player and he has continued with the same bullish approach as a pundit.

In December, Keane ridiculed Jurgen Klopp's side, saying. "I think if Liverpool were playing out in my back garden, I wouldn't watch them. They're just drifting. Drifting nowhere."

Going even further back, Keane had previously stated, "Win the league and Champions League? No. Liverpool? Forget about it,".

Liverpool are now at just 4/1 to win Europe's top trophy and complete what was seen as mission impossible at the start of the season. Not bad for a team Keane wouldn't pay to watch...

After Salah and company took apart England's best team in Manchester City over two legs - it seemed that Keane has some back peddling to do, and that's exactly what he did.

ITV Football host Mark Pougatch mentioned the previous comments to Keane on The Champions League highlights show and the the former Ipswich manager quickly correct himself.

"What did I say about that? Was it another line?

"The defence, that was always the big concern for me at Liverpool. Early in the season, when you look at some of the performances - away at Man City, away at Spurs - you just felt they were going to concede, especially against the bigger teams.

"But they've improved over the last six months with the signing [Virgil van Dijk], they've got a settled back four, Robertson has come in and done really well. He's obviously sticking with same goalkeeper now, there's a lot of confidence in the back four. The players deserve huge credit for it."

Could have just admitted you were wrong Roy lad, come on...

Liverpool will now go into the Champions League semi-final draw on Friday alongside AS Roma, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. If the next round of the competition is anywhere near as eventful as the last then we could have a real treat on our hands!
