Harry Maguire Produces Miss Of The Season By Hitting Post From One Yard Out

Oh, Harry.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire produced one of the most extraordinary misses of the season from one yard out against AC Milan.

A United corner was flicked on by Bruno Fernandes to the far post, where Maguire was steaming in with the goal at his mercy. Maguire was completely alone - it looked easier to score than miss - but he somehow shinned the ball against the post.

The ball looped clear and Maguire himself ran into the post - looking utterly shocked that the ball wasn't in the back of the net. As did everyone else watching or on the pitch at the time.

BT Sport commentator Ian Darke called it a miss that "defied mathematics" - and it's hard to disagree. Maguire himself stood in the net for a brief moment, wondering why the ball wasn't there with him.

A remarkable left-off for Milan at Old Trafford in the Europa League last-16 first leg. But to be fair, the visitors had earned the right to go into the break level at 0-0.

In fact, the Serie A side should arguably have been ahead at the time of Maguire's astonishing miss. Franck Kessie unleashed a terrific volley early in the game that flew past Dean Henderson and into the net.

However VAR ruled the strike out due to the ball (perhaps) brushing Kessie's hand before he turned and fired home.

Milan were the brighter team for much of the first half. But with the scores level at 0-0 (somehow), it was all to play for in the second half.
