This is following a season where Real Madrid won the Champions League and France won the World Cup. Modric helped his nation Croatia reach their best ever finish in the World Cup. They finished runners-up, losing to France in a thrilling final in Russia.

The UEFA Player of the Year is the veteran midfielder's second major individual award in two months, after he earned the Golden Ball at this summer's World Cup - a competition where he had brilliant campaign.

Ever since the departure of Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane from Real Madrid, many consider Modric to be the most important player on the team.

But he's been linked with a move to Inter Milan this summer. The Italian giants are back in the Champions League after several seasons out, and have attracted the interest of some big names over the window.
