Luke Shaw has been speaking about Cristiano Ronaldo's newfound importance to the Manchester United dressing room, and how the Portuguese star's presence is having a transformative affect.

For many, Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford was seen as more than just big-name signing. This is because of what the five-time Ballon d'Or winner brings you off the pitch as well as on it.

For United Left-back Luke Shaw the difference that the 36-year-old has made since his arrival has been hard to quantify.

Ronaldo's deadline day transfer from Juventus was one of the biggest footballing stories of the summer, as it not only represented United signing one of the world's best players, it was also a long-overdue homecoming for the former club legend.

His impact on the pitch was almost instantaneous, as he followed up a debut brace with goals against Young Boys, West Ham and Villareal.

Nevertheless, for Shaw, there is so much that the current squad can learn from the forward just in the way he conducts himself

"It is just unbelievable to be in a dressing room with him," Shaw told BBC Radio 5 Live. The 26-year-old has given fans a fascinating insight into what it is like sharing a dressing room with the former Juventus and Real Madrid star, while also gaining insight into his longevity.

"You know the star he is, what he has been doing over a number of years," the defender added.

"You see the way he conducts himself, how professional he is. It's clear to me why he has been at the top for so many years.

"His mentality is second to none. I think he has really improved that in and around the changing room."

In spite of Ronaldo's excellent start to life at the club, United have endured a mixed start to the new Premier League season, picking up 14 points from their first seven matches.

The club's number 7 has already come to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's rescue this term, hitting an important equaliser against West Ham - and a late winner against Villarreal in the side's last Champions League outing.
