Rio Ferdinand Names The Three Players He Wants Manchester United To Sign

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing a midfield crisis after recent injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.

But United legend Ferdinand has picked out Napoli midfielder Fabian as well as teammate Koulibaly to strengthen the midfield and defence respectively.

He also went on to identify PSG forward Cavani as a third signing to offer some experience up front.

United currently have Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and youngster Mason Greenwood among their attacking ranks.

But all three are lacking in big game experience and Ferdinand argues Cavani could bring some much needed maturity.

The Uruguayan has won a slew of titles in France but has slid down the pecking order following Mauro Icardi's arrival in the summer.

In the case of Napoli duo Fabian and Koulibaly, they are surely on the shortlist of all Europe's top clubs.

Fabian has impressed since joining from Real Betis in 2018 and the 23-year-old is just what United need in midfield.

He's also represented Spain at international level and considering the quality of their midfield, that's no easy feat.

He also suggests 19-year-old Boca Juniors midfielder Agustín Almendra as a wildcard.

Koulibaly, meanwhile, has been one of the best defenders in world football in the last few years.

The 28-year-old will command a fee likely higher than the £80 million United paid for Harry Maguire last summer.

Solskjaer has explained that there are funds to spend in January, despite reports claiming 'The Red Devils' won't make any signings.

"If we can keep this lot fit and if we can keep on improving, and if you get one addition or two additions, of course that's going to be competition for places," the 46-year-old said per The Independent.

"But it's also about getting the right ones.

"There's no point suddenly bringing someone in now for the sake of three or four months if that can disrupt any good feeling or chemistry in the group, because the chemistry in the group is really good."

Do you think United will make any signings in the January transfer window?
