Real Madrid turned down an £89 million bid from a Premier League club for Gareth Bale last season.
That is according to former president Ramon Calderon who suggests 'Los Blancos' were keen to keep the Welshman on their books.

Bale has become an outcast in the Spanish capital and he does not look to part of Zinedine Zidane's plans going forward.
While a move to the Chinese Super League fell through last summer, Calderon told talkSPORT a return to England was on the cards.
"I know in the last day of the transfer window last year there was an offer from the Premier League," the 69-year-old begun per The Mirror.

"They offered €100 million (£89 million) and Real Madrid turned down that offer because they thought Bale would be a player in their side.
"I'm not allowed to say the name, though I do know the name of the club.
"I think at the end there was a disagreement as Madrid decided not to sell the player, because they thought he was a player who could be used and be in the starting line-up."
Manchester United and former side Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for the winger last summer.

Bale recently spoke to Sky Sports and he admitted Madrid have made it "very difficult" for him to leave.
"I think the club needs to answer that question because I tried to leave last year," Bale replied when asked about potential moves falling through.
"They blocked everything at the last second. It was a project I was excited for last year but it didn't materialise.
"There have been other instances where I have tried to go but the club won't allow it or they have done something.
"It's for the club. What can I say? I want to play football. I'm still motivated to play football. I guess it's on the club. I can't do much. They are in control of everything.

"I have a contract and all I can do is carry on with what I am doing and hopefully something comes up. It's in the club's hands."
When asked if he would want to make a return to the Premier League, the 31-year-old replied: "It's one of those situations if those options arise it's something I would look at, for sure. We'll see what happens.
"We have plenty of time in this transfer window and I guess a couple of others as well. Time will tell.
"It's not really in my hands, the decision is in Real Madrid's hands. They make things very difficult to be honest.
