Juventus' Aaron Ramsey has been linked with a shock move to Newcastle United - with the Premier League outfit willing to pay his £400,000-per-week wages.

The Welsh international joined the Italian giants from Arsenal last summer but has struggled to hold down a starting spot.

Tuttojuve have claimed the 29-year-old could be ready for a return to England, with Wolverhampton Wanderers also interested.

Should Ramsey opt to join Newcastle, he would earn four times more than current highest earner Jonjo Shelvey.

It would also be a huge gamble for the club considering a £300 million takeover bid seems to be off the table.

Manager Steve Bruce has revealed he spoke to owner Mike Ashley at the end of last season and they are in line on summer transfer plans.

"I spoke to Mike immediately after the game against Liverpool," Bruce told the Chronicle.

"He phoned in to thank all of us for our efforts over the season.

"Since then, I haven't had that many real conversations with him. I had one a few days after that.

"I know people always want a story on that, when I speak to the owner, but it was normal.

"I told him our plans and what we were trying to do. I told him what we would like to do and he was supportive of it."

Ramsey signed for Juventus on a free transfer and he won Serie A during his first season at the Allianz Stadium.

However, he failed to fit in coach Maurizio Sarri's plans and he scored just four goals in 35 games.

Sarri has since been sacked and new boss Andrea Pirlo is ready to begin a huge squad overhaul.

'The Old Lady' are looking to trim their wage budget due to the coronavirus pandemic's impact on world football.

It was revealed on Friday that Gonzalo Higuain and Sami Khedira are the latest big names on the chopping block.

Fabrizio Romano explained the duo's contracts were to be 'terminated' a year before their expiry.

Meanwhile, World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi has left the club for David Beckham's Inter Miami franchise.

Matuidi will bring a wealth of experience to the table as well as a winning mentality having enjoyed spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Juve, not to mention his international career with France.

Beckham and Matuidi were teammates during the former England captain's short spell at PSG in 2013.
