Manchester United Offered £154 Million For One Of The World's Biggest Talents This Summer
United have been looking to sign a winger in the transfer window and Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho is said to be their main target.
But negotiations have stalled and Catalunya Radio report United did explore other options, including 17-year-old Fati.
The Red Devils are said to have bid £136 million for the Spaniard and were willing to go up to his £154 million release clause.
However, they ended negotiations when Barca explained his release clause had increased to £363 million in his new contract.
United's attentions have turned back to Sancho ahead of next week's transfer deadline.
Dortmund have remained firm in their £108 million valuation of the England international, who registered 17 goals and 17 assists in the Bundesliga last season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen to secure a deal for Porto's Alex Telles before the window slams shut.

Meanwhile, Fati is regarded as one of the world's top prospects and he started the season in style on Sunday night.
He scored two goals and won a penalty during Barcelona's 4-0 victory over Villarreal and he was a shoe in for Man of the Match.
But due to the award being sponsored by Budweiser, Fati could not accept it as he is under the legal drinking age in Spain.
Left back Jordi Alba was named Man of the Match instead.
Despite not receiving the award, Fati remained upbeat and insisted he is "living the dream" at the Camp Nou.
"Playing with [Lionel] Messi is a dream I had since I was a child and now I am living it," Fati explained per Goal.
"He gives me a lot of advice, he helps me a lot on the pitch and in training, but away from it too, and that makes me very happy.
"I want to keep improving every day, to continue to learn from my team-mates because they are the best around and they are trying to help me every day."
