Manchester United have been linked with a shock £50 million move for Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Sun have reported that the Gunners could let their captain leave this summer as his contract is set to expire in summer 2021.

Bosses at the Emirates Stadium have reportedly accepted that the 30-year-old won't be signing an extension which leaves the door open for United to swoop.

The Gabonese forward has been Arsenal's best player in a poor season as they sit ninth in the Premier League.

Head coach Mikel Arteta has been vocal in recent months about how important Aubameyang is to his side and their goal of reaching the Champions League again.

Aubameyang joined Arsenal from German side Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 for a club record fee of £56 million.

He's scored 20 goals so far this season and was also linked with a move to Barcelona in the January transfer window.

In the case of United, they sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan last summer and have used Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial up front for most of the season.

Odion Igahlo joined on loan in January from Chinese side Shanghai Greenland Shenhua and has enjoyed a prolific start to life back in England.

He's scored four goals in three starts for the Red Devils but it's unknown if his deal will be made permanent.

But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that the Nigerian could become a permanent fixture in the United squad.

"Odion has done really well since he's come in," the Norwegian said following last week's 5-0 win over LASK in the Europa League.

"He will improve and get better and has qualities we saw in him that we needed and they are qualities we will still need next season.

"He's a goalscorer and a striker. He knows his job and what his role is in the team.

"He's very good with his back to goal and a good link player, but best thing about him is his personality. He's got the lot, really.

"He had three touches before he hit the ball and all were high quality to make space for himself. The strike on the half-volley was great timing, no-one would have saved that."

United adding Aubameyang to their attack could see them move closer to recapturing their former glory.
