Sir Alex Ferguson's quotes about a young Josh King have resurfaced - after the Norwegian emerged as a Deadline Day target for Manchester United.

King was in the United youth setup until 2013 when he moved to Blackburn on a permanent deal.

But he's emerged as a shock deadline day target for 'The Red Devils' and Ferguson's verdict on the youngster in 2012 will get fans excited.

"Josh King has done very well," said Ferguson in October 2012 when King was pushing for a start in a league game against Stoke per Manchester Evening News. "We get mixed fortunes when players go on loan and Josh didn't play much at Monchengladbach last year.

"But he did well in pre-season and has been working really hard.

"He's shown he has good ability. He scored the third goal on Tuesday and that is bound to have given him a boost.

"He's very quick with a great physique and should have a good career."

It remains to be seen if the 28-year-old will return to Old Trafford but Bournemouth are reportedly open to selling if they can seal a replacement.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe refused to comment on if United had made an approach but explained he understood 'the position' King was in.

"I'm not going to deny anything you have read but I don't want to talk about it too much. He is much valued and loved by us.

"He is a massive part of our team, he brings that unique pace and strength, coupled with technical ability and an eye for goal."

"We have missed him since he has been out injured, so speaking as manager I would be very reluctant to let him leave. With a day to go in the window it's very difficult to find a replacement," the Bournemouth boss added.

"It's going to be [a decision] between the chief executive and owner. I love Josh as a player and person. I know what Manchester United means to him with his history with the club, so I understand his position."

King has scored three goals for Bournemouth this season, including a winner against United back in November.

The 28-year-old also worked with current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during Solskjaer's time coaching the United reserves.

Do you think King will sign for United before the end of Deadline Day?
