Lionel Messi's transfer saga has taken a dramatic twist and he is now likely to remain with Barcelona this season.

Messi has reportedly reversed his decision to leave the club this summer and will instead reconsider his future next year.

Cuatro have claimed the 33-year-old consulted father Jorge as well as lawyers and will now bet on "continuity" in the team.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner also thinks an extra season will give him the chance to say goodbye to fans inside the Camp Nou.

His likely destination should he choose to leave is still Premier League outfit Manchester City.

Messi's father was seen leaving the Messi Foundation headquarters in Barcelona on Thursday morning.

Messi handed in a transfer request last week and it shocked fans across the footballing world.

He had previously been hellbent on leaving the club this summer after failing to turn up for training this week.

Barcelona refused to let their superstar forward leave on a free transfer, insisting the €700 million release clause in his contract is still active.
