Manchester United failed to sign Spanish midfielder Thiago back in 2013 after David Moyes decided he wasn't a player the club needed.
Moyes took over at Old Trafford from the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson earlier that summer with the Red Devils keen to bolster their ranks.

Thiago was at Barcelona at the time with United reportedly in pole position to sign him.
However, he ended up joining German giants Bayern Munich and Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has recently discussed the transfer.
Balague explained the 29-year-old had asked for a transfer to United but Moyes said he was 'not a player for him'.

Thiago would then go on to reunite with former manager Pep Guardiola in Germany for a relatively small fee of €21.7 million and he still remains one of the world's top midfielders.
Later that summer, United ended up signing Marouane Fellaini from Moyes' former club Everton on deadline day for £30 million.
A move for Thiago would have excited United fans who were desperate to see a creative midfielder join that summer.

While Fellaini would go on to spend five years with the club, he was an often maligned figure for a number of mistakes in key games.
Talk of Thiago's failed transfer has resurfaced following rumours of him wanting a move to the Premier League.
His contract with Bayern is up in 2021 and he had been in negotiations for an extension.

Both parties appeared close to reaching an agreement until the Spaniard had second thoughts about penning a new contract.
Reports in Germany now claim the player is eyeing a sensational switch to Liverpool, per Sport Bild who add that the club value him around £43 million.
Do you think Thiago will make a switch to the Premier League this summer?
