Where Are They Now? Every Premier League Club’s Best Young Prospect From 2015

From rising European superstars to wonderkids who have vanished from the scene...

Five years ago, the best young player at every Premier League club was profiled in the Guardian's 'Next Generation' series.

Now there's an update on where each player is five years on - and as you'd expect, there's some massive differences in fortune. One is a Champions League winner and world class in his position, while others have left professional football altogether.

Trent Alexander-Arnold hadn't even turned 17 when he was picked out, so an amazing shout. "The 16-year-old has received rave reviews not only from Liverpool and England coaches during a rapid rise up the ranks but also from Steven Gerrard, his boyhood hero," Andy Hunter wrote in 2015 - and it turns out the coaches and Stevie G were spot-on.

But it isn't always so easy. One of the most talented teens in 2015, Arsenal's Marcus McGuane, signed for Barcelona in 2018 and became the first English player to represent Barca since Gary Lineker. However the midfielder couldn't break into the first team at Camp Nou and signed for Nottingham Forest in February.

Marcus Edwards, at Tottenham in 2015, has been tearing it up in the Portuguese league for Vitoria. He delighted Spurs fans by scoring against Arsenal in last season's Europa League and has been linked with a return to Tottenham or a move to Manchester United.

Reece Oxford is another interesting case as he looked a future superstar when he became one of the youngest Premier League starters ever for West Ham in 2015. But despite thrilling displays early on, he never quite established himself in the first team and is now at Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Manchester United's Callum Gribbin understandably found it tough to live up to early comparisons to Ryan Giggs (talk about pressure) and left for Sheffield United in 2018, but is now at Barrow.

Tyler Roberts, meanwhile, has departed West Brom but is now a first-team regular with Leeds United and has nine caps for Wales. Former Sunderland striker Josh Maja is now scoring regularly in Ligue 1 and has been capped by Nigeria.

An update on all 20 of the Guardian's 2015 players to watch is below.
