Every Premier League Boss Ranked From ‘Manager Of The Year’ To 'Total Failure’ For 2020/21

Premier League managers have been ranked on their 2020/21 performance, with David Moyes named 'Manager of the Year' while Frank Lampard and Jose Mourinho are labelled 'Total Failures'.

The TierMaker ranking, put together by SPORTbible, can't ignore that The Moyesiah came in to keep a relegation-threatened club up last season and wasn't expected to do a lot more this term. So finishing sixth - ahead of Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton - while bothering the Champions League spots for much of the campaign is a huge achievement.

Pep Guardiola's side won the Premier League in style, of course, so he's easily in the 'Excellent' category along with his great mentor, Marcelo Bielsa. While the two other promoted clubs went straight back down, the Argentinian took Leeds United to ninth. Tremendous.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also silenced many doubters by finishing second, while Jurgen Klopp may be a controversial pick here given Liverpool's struggles. But to take a team whose defence really was decimated by injuries (not that it was mentioned much...) to third spot is a genuinely strong effort.

On the other end of the scale, Mike Arteta's Arsenal finishing ninth and losing 13 league games is simply not good enough, so he ends up in 'Poor'.

But at least Arteta is above old pals Frank and Jose. Lampard's leaky Chelsea were ninth when he departed and Thomas Tuchel made an instant impact - but it isn't just the results that make this a 'Total Disaster'. It's that Lampard taking the Chelsea job too soon in his career makes it very difficult for him to get it in the future (when he might be better prepared), which is a shame for a genuine club legend.

Mourinho's failure at Tottenham isn't just about results either; just ask any Spurs fan how they felt about his depressing reign at the club.

On the 'Underrated' scale sits a defiant Steve Bruce. Newcastle may be a mess, but he's ended up 12th - above the likes of Wolves, Southampton and Brighton with far more praised coaches - and deserves credit.

As does Dean Smith for the fine job he's done at Aston Villa and, overall, the departing Roy Hodgson has made Crystal Palace an established Premier League outfit which they hadn't really been previously

'Overrated' has to contain, unfortunately, King Carlo Ancelotti. An all-time great manager, of course, but is 10th place really good enough for Everton (even if the squad is a bit imbalanced)? We'd argue it is not.

Same goes for Ralph Hasenhuttl, who gets a lot of praise but saw his side ship 68 goals (only West Brom conceded more), while Scott Parker got a lot of plaudits - including from Sir Alex Ferguson - for his team's style of play. But the harsh reality is 28 points is a woeful total.
