The Collective Cost Of World's Most Expensive XI Is Staggering

The collective cost of the world's most expensive starting XI is quite unbelievable.

The amount totals at £1.029 billion, with the sum worked out with fees already paid, not fees that have been agreed and but are yet to be paid out.

The world was stunned when Paris Saint-Germain paid around £200 million for the services of Neymar, and in the same period agreed a loan with a future fee of £121 million, which was paid this summer.

The Premier League floods the midfield, with Philippe Coutinho''s move to Barcelona from Liverpool and Paul Pogba's move from Juventus back to Manchester United sandwiching Ousmane Dembélé's move to Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund.

While in defence, as Man United and Liverpool supporters will only be too happy to remind them, Man City occupy three of the four spaces. But even still, the most expensive transfer remains the Reds' purchase of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in the January transfer window.

We're not sure whether money in football is affecting the game too much. What used to cost a team £30 million some ten years ago could be worth up to £100 million today. What matters is the supporters are not priced out by match-day tickets.
