Chelsea fans have pinpointed the exact moment their fortunes turned against West Bromwich Albion - when Cesar Azpilicueta took the captain's armband from Thiago Silva.

The Blues were 3-0 down inside 30 minutes at the Hawthorns and Silva made a huge mistake for the second on his Premier League debut.

Despite having a wealth of experience, the 36-year-old had a day to forget and things had to change in the second half.

Step up, Azpilicueta.

The Spaniard replaced Marcos Alonso at half-time and emerged wearing the captain's armband, ready to organise the team.

He passionately delivered instructions and barked at his teammates to improve their standards.

Fans caught the moment on social media and they were in awe at Azpilicueta's elite mentality.

Goals from Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham in the second half cancelled out Callum Robinson's double and a Kyle Bartley header.

The decision to name Silva as captain in his first game sparked concern as his English isn't the strongest yet.

Lampard addressed his choice prior to the game and stressed the Brazilian would make up for it in other capacities.

"Experience, qualities, leadership," he told Sky Sports. "We have Azpi as club captain, he's not starting today so Thiago takes the armband with his presence.

"He's not speaking the language enough to do it in that sense, but it doesn't matter with someone like him he delivers it with actions and presence and how he is with people around him.

"He's been a winner throughout his career and I want to see that with us."
