Adams let Ellison go not long after joining Morecambe, but he's probably regretting it right now.

Newport County striker Kevin Ellison screamed in the face of Morecambe manager Derek Adams after scoring in the ultimate show of sh*thousery.

Ellison played under Adams at Morecambe for a season and the duo didn't see eye to eye, with Ellison released in summer 2020.

The 42-year-old joined County as a free agent and the two sides faced off this afternoon - with County running out comfortable 3-1 winners.

After scoring the third, Ellison immediately ran towards Adams on the touchline and shouted at his former boss.

Ellison discussed the relationship in an interview with The Athletic and he believes Adams wasn't interested in discussing his role, despite him being a regular starter under previous manager Jim Bentley.

He explained: "I don't think he saw me as a bad egg.

"We never had any arguments, other than a conversation about why I wasn't involved - the sort which happens every single day at every football club.

"I never downed tools and I wasn't hanging around for money because that wouldn't make sense, knowing I was out of contract at the end of the season and instead could have been laying down some foundations at a new club.

"Ultimately, I don't think the manager liked confrontation and I think he saw me as a threat to his job.

"New managers tend to be insecure about having older pros knocking about. I was a leader in the dressing room and loud with it."

The Liverpool-born forward also spent stints training alone at Lancaster University, away from the first team before his contract expired last year.
