Sadio Mane Says Man United Tried To Sign Him
Sadio Mane has opened up about his Southampton days and suggested that Manchester United tried to sign him before Liverpool swooped in.
Mane was class at Southampton, but everyone expected that he would quietly disappear after a couple of good seasons at the south coast.
Eyebrows were raised when Liverpool came in with an offer for the 26-year-old and signed him in a transfer worth £34 million.
But the cost has paid dividends. Though Mane can have the off game here and there, he's turned out to be a brilliant purchase for the Reds.
In three seasons, he's scored 36 goals to date.
But it could have been so much different. When Louis van Gaal was at the helm, he was eyeing up Mane as a potential player to bring in to Old Trafford.

I spoke with Van Gaal, and they even made an offer. But for me it was not the right club." pic.twitter.com/PMNZH9F7Et
"Some teams wanted me - Manchester (United), the wrong team wanted me," he told SuperSport.
"Of course, I spoke with Van Gaal, and they even made an offer. But for me it was not the right club, it was not the right moment.
"To feel this - the right moment, the right coach, the right club."
Yes 100% Manchester United seem to ruin quality players...- Lew (@TheLewtube1) August 30, 2018
This is kind of a moot point because as a Southampton player he was contractually obliged to get poached by Liverpool.- Alex Hall (@LLHallJ) August 30, 2018
Then why did u agree personal terms and want to join us? We never made an offer to Southampton- utdcover (@utdcover) August 30, 2018

While there are uncertain times ahead for Man United, Liverpool's future is looking bright.
