Cristiano Ronaldo will be protected from any potential ISIS attacks by a team of trained hardmen.

Strongman Nuno Marecos was on call during the Champions League final in Kiev, Ukraine, shielding the Portugal international from any possible danger.

And alongside the former elite paratrooper is MMA fighter Goncalo Salgado. They'll both be on hand at this summer's World Cup in Russia, there to help Ronaldo if any trouble starts.

When he's not in Ronaldo's entourage, Nuno's first job is presiding over a gang of bull entertainers. Half hours' drive from Lisbon, he leads the line in group known as forcados - a team of eight men. They encourage the half-ton animals to charge, before they incapacitate the bulls on the ground, in front of an excited crowd. Forcados like Nuno have ended up in comas due to their work.

The 100-year-old art they practice is known as pega de cara - or 'face catch' in English. It's a typical showing at a final event in a Portuguese bullfight.

Earlier this year, terror group ISIS threatened to murder players Ronaldo and Lionel Messi by posting mock up photos of the players beheaded at a football stadium, with the caption: 'Your blood will fill the ground'.

Security will be on high alert.

Nuno said of his relationship with the Real star via the Mirror: "We give everything we can to help each other.

"Only through this spirit of friendship and a lot of admiration for the bull, are we able to triumph and do things that we often only dream about."

Ronaldo clearly takes his safety seriously, but let's hope nothing untoward occurs during this year's tournament.

Ronaldo last featured in the Champions League final. His team ran out 3-1 winner over Liverpool, but the star missed his chance to score, a pitch invader trying to tackle him before he was dragged away by security.
