Cristiano Ronaldo has earned the title of scoring the best goal of 2017/18 Champion League, despite his counterpart Gareth Bale's effort clearly being a lot better.

The Portugal international, indeed, buried a sublime overhead kick against Juventus in the quarterfinals. It's a goal that will last through the ages and be heavily featured in Ronaldo and Champions League greatest goal highlights.

But, the trouble is Bale scored the best goal in the history of the world ever.

The occasion of Bale's goal, a Champions League final, the weak cross from Marcelo that's awkwardly spinning towards his body, the way the ball goes up and down in such a short distance, completely stranding Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius in the middle of the goal, the fact it spins away from the German goalie despite coming from the inside of his foot.

The goal is a thing of beauty; in the future, scholars will sit and ponder replayed footage of the goal; writers and poets and philosophers will try and make sense of its wonder, referring to the goal as a definition of beauty.

But no, Ronaldo has spoiled the party.

There's another twist to the tale. The panel who were selected to vote for their favourite goal included none other than David Moyes. The Scotsman is on the UEFA committee with ex-Roma Milan defender Cristian Chivu, current Latvia national team coach Mixu Paatelainen, former Werder Bremen player Thomas Schaaf, ex-Poland national manager Dane Peter Rudbæk and Jerzy Engel.

Wowee. Moyes at it again, knowing the relationship Man United fans have with Ronaldo and using it to his ad Could he be forcing his way back into contention of the Man United job with his latest escapade?

What about the other goals nominated? Well, the two players feature again on the list but further down the list.

Welsh star Bale's side-footed volley in September's group stage win at Borussia Dortmund made it to number six while and Ronaldo's strike in December's in Real's return meeting with Dortmund comes in at number ten.
