Sergio Ramos has brutally responded to Gerard Pique's claims that last night's Real Madrid team is the worst he has played in El Clasico.

Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-0 to move back to the top of La Liga but Pique was less than complementary to 'Los Blancos' and their first half performance.

But his words have no bearing to Ramos who admitted he'd gladly win every game playing poorly.

"Everyone's opinion is respectable. I sign to win all Clasicos by making a first half as bad as he says," the Real Madrid captain told reporters per SportStar.

"The approach was different. In the first half, we left the ball and in the second we decided to go.

"They were not so fresh and we started to generate chances."

His response was to Pique who didn't hold back in his criticism of Zinedine Zidane's side post-match.

"Real Madrid in the first half was the worst Madrid I've faced at the Bernabeu," Pique said in the mixed zone following the game per Goal.

"We missed a chance to hurt them.

"We have to play better than in second half, though, we lost balls and they grew in confidence."

When asked if the loss bothered the 33-year-old, he replied: "Yes, they were giving off the worst possible impression and I don't say it as a criticism. We all have problems in our clubs.

"But I have the feeling that it's an important missed opportunity [for Barcelona]."

Barcelona had the best chances in the first half but couldn't find a way past an inspired Thibaut Courtois.

Madrid's breakthrough came in the second half through Vinicius Junior.

The young Brazilian drifted into the opposition box and coolly slotted past Marc-Andre ter Stegen to put his side ahead.

He proceeded to celebrate with former Madrid man Cristiano Ronaldo's 'Si' celebration as the 35-year-old watched from the crowd.

The crowd were fired up moments later after Marcelo's last ditch tackle on Lionel Messi.

Messi saw himself through on goal but the left-back showed breathtaking speed to race back and intercept.

He then rose to his feet and roared to get the Santiago Bernabeu faithful's hearts pumping.

Mariano doubled his side's advantage in the dying moments of the game to wrap up all three points.
