Gareth Bale's winner for Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton has prompted a reaction from the Spanish media.

Bale came off the bench on Sunday evening and nodded the winner to send Spurs to second in the Premier League.

It's his first goal for Spurs since returning on a season-long loan from Real Madrid and it'll come as no surprise that newspapers in Spain are interested in the Welshman.

He was assisted by Sergio Reguilon, who also joined Spurs from Madrid in the summer, and Marca were quick to point out they never combined for a goal in the Spanish capital.

"The connection between two former Madrid players may have made some fans question [Zinedine] Zidane's odd decision [to let them leave]" said they stated per Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo said Bale was the hero and noted that the 31-year-old "celebrated the goal with enthusiasm after a difficult time in his career."

It's a far cry from two weeks ago when Bale was dubbed a 'curse' after Spurs' 3-0 lead over West Ham United turned into a 3-3 draw once Bale came on.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho paid tribute to the winger post-match and joked he would be looking at the reaction online.

"For a week or so now, he's been improving," Mourinho said per Goal. "It's not just from watching him, the data supports that as well. We knew, Gareth knew. We share ideas and feelings.

"He deserves that [the goal]. When I have five minutes I'm going on Safari to look at the Madrid websites to see what they say about him.

"He showed great personality and had a great impact, scoring a very important goal for us. He also joined Harry in a very experienced way to play the last 15 minutes for us.

"They were very clever, very intelligent, especially at holding the ball up and bringing it into zones where they couldn't hurt us.

"He knows that we care about him and he cares about the club. I think he's a perfect fit. He's very calm, very intelligent. I'm very pleased for him to score the winning goal."

Diaro Sport added that Mourinho "did not waste the opportunity to enjoy himself" at the expense of his former side.
