Gareth Southgate has once again been abrupt with his comments about Jack Grealish and England fans think it is becoming a problem.

Grealish registered an assist during Thursday's 3-0 victory over Wales and was named Man of the Match in his first international start.

Southgate was asked about the Aston Villa captain's contributions and after a few seconds on the matter, he turned his attention to Mason Mount.

"I'm very pleased with him [Grealish] and he'll be delighted to have had his first start, he's a different type," the Three Lions manager stated.

Southgate would quickly move on to Chelsea youngster Mount and continued: "Mount coming on in a similar position, again I thought he had an excellent impact on the game.

"He presses so well, he moves the ball so quickly and he had a real impact in setting up two or three chances, an immediate impact on the game."

It isn't the first time Southgate has shifted the focus from Grealish to other players.

Following the 25-year-old's debut against Denmark in the Nations League last month, former defender Southgate was asked about his performance.

Rather than comment on that, he was keen to touch on Wolves defender Conor Coady and Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

"Well firstly I thought Conor Coady's debut was absolutely outstanding. He organised the game, his teammates, his use of the ball was excellent.

"I thought Kalvin Phillips' debut is one he could be proud of. He got more and more comfortable as the game wore on.

Another question about Grealish came in and Southgate decided to talk about Mount instead.

"Firstly I thought Mason Mount was excellent as we moved him back in central midfield. That's something I haven't seen him do since he was 16, 17-years-old.

"That was a little experiment we wanted to look at as well and it helped us move the ball quickly through the middle."
