Rio Ferdinand has weighed in on the Mohamed Salah vs Luis Suarez debate - offering a decisive answer when asked who he rates higher in their prime.

Salah's two recent individual goals against Manchester City and Watford amazed and astounded fans worldwide, but they also had another effect.

The nature of the solo efforts saw many compare his form to that of Suarez during the 2013/14 campaign, where the Uruguayan almost single-handedly dragged Liverpool to a Premier League title.

However, despite those heroics, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand insists that he'd rather take a prime Salah than a prime Suarez.

"I'd take Mo Salah. What he's done in the last four seasons...I think he's immense," Ferdinand said on BT Sport last month.

"The icing on the cake is he's an integral part of a team who's won big trophies. He's a joy to watch - an assassin in and around the box. I can't look past him in the modern era."

One man who knows a thing or two about scoring in front of The Kop is ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who offered a different perspective to that of his fellow BT pundit.

"The question was 'who would you have for one season?' right?" Owen interjected.

"Well the season Luis Suarez played under Brendan Rodgers [2013-14], I've never seen anything like it in my life. He was unbelievable, off the scale."

While the BT debate began after Liverpool's recent Champions League win in Porto, we suspect some might be changing their answers to Salah after his last two Premier League games.

It is a topic worth revisiting this week, as Salah's Liverpool prepare to take on Suarez's Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

While Suarez is arguably past his very best now, aged 34, he is still a ferocious forward, one that helped Atletico seal a famous La Liga title last season.
