Paul Pogba is in the best form of his Manchester United career - and a January highlights package shows it's not just the spectacular stuff he's doing well.

The 27-year-old has had a hugely impactful start to 2021. He played eight games in January, scored two matching-goals against Burnley and a stunner vs Fulham and won the decisive penalty (converted by Bruno Fernandes, of course) in a victory over Aston Villa.

However Pogba is often accused of doing the eye-catching stuff superbly, but not contributing all-round for the team.

His January showreel - which features Pogba tracking back, intercepting, making vital tackles, winning defensive headers, launching counterattacks and playing sublime through balls - shows that is nonsense. Right now, he's doing it all.

"This is Big P at his best. Box to box. Utilising every ounce of talent he has on and off the ball," marvelled one Man United fan on Twitter.

"Need this consistency from Pogba. What a month he's had," came another typical comment, while there were numerous calls for the France World Cup winner to be named Premier League Player of the Month.

Among the praise there was concern for Manchester United's strikers and just how many of the attacks being set up by Pogba were going to waste. Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood weren't quite at their clinical best in January.

However, with Man United destroying Southampton 9-0 on Tuesday night to equal a Premier League record, it's safe to say that the team have found their goalscoring form.

Pogba was deliberately rested by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for that match, kept on the bench after his incredible efforts the previous month in the middle of a busy run of games.

But given there was talk of whether he was even in the most effective United XI as recently as late 2020, it's now clear that - on this form - Pogba is one of Manchester United's absolutely essential players.
