Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland appeared to drag the ball over the goal line against Sheffield United - but goal-line technology ruled no goal.

Oliver Norwood whipped a free-kick into the Villa box which Nyland appeared to have in his grasp.

However, the Norwegian lost his footing and seemed to step over the line and carry the ball into his own net.

Blades players looked to Michael Oliver for the goal signal but play continued with scores still 0-0.

Fans on social media were quick to react to the incident and it's fair to say the Premier League has delivered controversy in the first game back.

Villa's official Twitter account were also baffled about the situation, while United summed it up in one word.

Do you think Nyland carried the ball over the line and should the goal have been given?
